About Councilwoman Bessye Adams

Grand Prairie Focused.

Bessye Adams is a proud Grand Prairie resident of more than 25 years, deeply rooted in the community she serves. She and her husband, Jackie, an Air Force veteran and retired Lockheed Martin employee, raised their family in Grand Prairie, where their children graduated from GPISD and now serve as an educator, special education advocate, and police officer. Bessye holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration and Management and brings more than 30 years of experience in auditing and finance, including roles as a director of finance, grant accountant, and controller for a local school district. She has also been a multimillion-dollar producer as a former Century 21 Judge Fite and Stanfield Realtor and is a local small business owner, while contributing her expertise on the audit committee of a nonprofit organization.

Bessye currently serves as a Grand Prairie City Council Member (At-Large), a position she has held since 2023, and has been appointed to numerous city boards and committees, including Finance and Government, Public Safety, Health and Environment, the Hotel Development Corporation, where she serves as Chair, the Tax Increment Financing Board, and the Housing Finance Corporation. She previously served on the Grand Prairie Zoning Board of Adjustments and remains actively involved in the community as an HOA board member, volunteer with Ronald McDonald House, and Get Out the Vote organizer. Bessye is also the founding president of Sisters of Sarai, providing scholarships to local students, and has partnered with the City of Grand Prairie and Girl Scouts of North Texas. At the national level, Bessye represents our community through the National League of Cities, serving on the Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Federal Advocacy Committee and the Council on Youth, Education and Families, while also participating in the First Tier Suburbs and Nature Everywhere Cohort.
